"The Chesapeake skipjack fleet is the last commercial sail powered fishing fleet in North America and the only "cohesive" sailing fleet in the western hemisphere. Of the approximately 16 skipjacks that survive afloat, two were determined worthy of NHL nomination, KATHRYN and HILDA M. WILLING. KATHRYN represents one of the earliest extant and one of the few fore-and-aft planked skipjacks; while WILLING represents one of the smaller, better maintained, and better sailing skipjacks." {Maryland Historical Trust}

The Whitelocks, in collaboration with Katarina Ennerfelt and a multitude of passionate volunteers, are working to preserve the Chesapeake Bay Skipjack Heritage through providing education and hands-on experiences to the public. Currently, Kathryn is undergoing a complete restoration of her hull after a mishap during the 2011 Skipjack Races in Deal Island, Maryland. Hilda M. Willing is fully operational as an oyster dredgeboat and will offer sailing tours during the off-season.
